    • ambient echoes
    • eclipse the dreamscape
    • with the chiliad murmurs
    • of a cold spectre
    • spelling its ominous wrath
    • in lion-tongued vapours;
    • writhing,
    • whispering,
    • withering,
    • the old winds
    • disperse their deadening essence,
    • entombing humanity’s foliate soul
    • within the greying silence of grisly eternity.
  •

    • no celestial song
    • mourns the dull passage
    • of these stirless creatures,
    • panged by their stark bondage;
    • no watchful spirit
    • breaks into ired being
    • before their holocaust,
    • their dead reckoning.
  •

    • only in the forgetting—
    • that sun-blind forgetting amidst the desert—
    • can the last, fallen gods
    • walk the waking worlds
    • on the back of that old, coiling serpent.
