PlatForum Volume 17 is out!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Volume 17 of PlatForum: Journal of Graduate Students in Anthropology (UVic) is now out! I made a whole book and journal come to life as its Editor-in-Chief.

Vol. 17: ANTHROPOLOGIES OF THE ABJECT

I could not have asked for a better month nor a better day of the year – with the sweet scare of Samhain approaching us on the belly of uncertain times. And, as the spooky fog creeps into the island’s morning ritual (within my quiet memory of today), this little text becomes all too real.

The corvids cackle their Valkyrie songs above – intimating terror to their brethren and sistren, little black angles, flying over to join the flock’s reverie. The world is ready for picking.

Let us split it open. See how this ABJECT light affords us a new kind of grace and self to push forward, screaming in tune with all the internal energies that define the human experience.

EASTER EGG: You can see the shadow materiality of the overflying corvids in the glassy reflection of the journal’s cover – a dyad, in fact. One above the center, left-most bone on the edge and the other just below and between the flower and the Dahlia petal.

Pathways of dark energy.

The mirror reflection of the corvid birds in flight only comes off as a phantom fingerprint. But, as I took the photo, it was clear to me and clearer in the resolution that it was indeed these masterful birds.
