NUOVA

NUOVA

My first book of love poetry, NUOVA, was written as an initial draft in 2011 and supervised by Dr. Ashok Mathur, a Canadian research chair and director of the Centre for Innovation and the Arts in Canada (CiCAC). I am currently in the process of rewriting it for re-submission and publication. The book deals with my 2008-2011 experiences of sacral love and development as a young poet. I have framed all of these emotional trials into a speaker persona who is continually struggling with the immensity of “the spirit of romance” as a Fedeli d’Amore practitioner. This tradition dates back to historical figures such as Dante Alighieri for whose similar book of poetics, La Vita Nuova (1294), is the manuscript’s principle model of (re)adaptation. The writing shifts back and forth between a prose narrative journaling and moments of poetry. I hope to finish the rewrite soon and publish it as a short, stand-alone book. I plan to donate all of the book’s proceeds to a woman’s charity such as V-Day or the Canadian Women’s Foundation, to support the wellbeing of all women. Investing back in those who inspire love.
